Course Syllabus

Welcome to EDUC AP 664 Principal Internship 3.  As we complete the journey of becoming a school administrator,  I am looking forward to each of you completing the Principal Internship Program and obtaining your certification as a building administrator.  Remember the internship handbook is designed to review the important course requirements, help you understand the scope of the internship, and answer any questions you may have as you complete the internship. If you have additional queries, you can contact your EWU intern supervisor, Dr. Pam Veltri at pveltri@ewu.edu or  pveltri2@gmail.com.

Remember, the internship covers an entire school year, including any summer work prior to the start of your internship year, that qualifies.  You will have needed to submit the summer hours form if you began logging hours prior to August 1. The intent of this requirement is to provide administrative experience with the opening and closing of the school year.   The internship is an essential and integral part of the Educational Leadership Program as it provides the "on the job" practical experiences for the candidate.  It is designed to develop the knowledge, skill and proficiencies and dispositions described in the Washington State Standards, (WAC 181-78A-300) .

Assignments for this course focus on mastery, therefore you will submit several drafts of  assignments through each internship course before the final assignment is completed and due at the end of the portfolio course.

The state of Washington requires that interns begin the year by  assessing their professional skills and ending the internship by assessing the same WSS skills again to determine your professional growth during the internship.  The process will help each intern target areas of professional growth during the internship and after as you move to a professional growth plan.  You will complete your final self-assessment ASAP at the end of your internship.

As you continue your internship, plan to assist your principal fully with the closing of school.  Continue to share the expectations of your internship with your mentor principal and continue to plan the leadership experiences which will develop your skills described in the standards.  Your mentor principal received an electronic copy of the "Mentor Principal Handbook" to assist in planning responsibilities for you during the internship.  Your mentor also completed an online  pre-assessment of your skill level related to the leadership standards.  Remember, this is a pre-assessment.  A final assessment will assess your growth from the internship experience at the end of your internship.

This continues to be a challenging and exciting year for you and I look forward to working with you to make it a rich and rewarding experience.  Sincerely, Dr. Pam Veltri
