Setting up Supervision Sessions
Within the first 2-3 weeks meet with the student to review and electronically sign the Learning Agreement. This is only required one time at the beginning of the contract period (fall for BASW and Advanced MSW, and winter for Foundation MSW, summer for part-time MSW).
During Supervision Sessions:
• Review student’s time sheet on IPT. This should be done an a weekly basis to ensure students are filling in all items, accurately reflecting on their experiences and not breaching confidentiality.
- If an AFI or Task Supervisor is locked out of IPT at the end of the quarter, we know the timesheet was not monitored weekly.
• Review student’s current workload / caseload and adjust demands on student as/if needed.
• Clarify performance expectations as/if needed. Provide clear and consistent feedback.
• Encourage student to reflect on progress toward development of practice behaviors and competencies.
• Review student’s Learning Agreement and progress toward completion of learning activities and goals.
• Provide concise, direct, constructive, timely, and balanced feedback.
• Discuss and promote healthy boundaries and self-care practices.
• Assist student in exploring and clarifying personal values.
• Discuss ethical concerns and demonstrate use of ethical decision-making models.
• Assist student with integration of theory with practice.
End of the quarter responsibilities:
- Meet with student to fill out and review end of quarter evaluation.
- Meet with student and FFI/FFL to review evaluation and check in about learning progress. This can be done in person, via zoom or conference call.
- Sign timesheet and evaluation.
