PHIL 210-026: Critical Thinking
This course focuses on the spread of ideas – particularly those which successfully replicate between minds, a.k.a. “memes.” Students will be instructed instructing students in a method of thinking that leads to more reliable conclusions, with emphasis on concrete cases in ordinary life and the sciences. They will acquire some of the skills required in becoming “inoculated” against dangerous ideas and a more responsible “host” to potentially good ones – including how to discern between validity/invalidity, causation/correlation, science/pseudoscience, and necessary/sufficient conditions. Rather than teaching what to think, this class will teach you HOW to think.
