Welcome to Module 2 in SPED 470 Special Education Assessment! In this second module, we will learn about the assessment process and how to include parents and families in this process. We will also learn more about how CBM data can be used for screening and progress monitoring and continue to learn about the WJ-IV ACH.

At the end of this module, students will be able to:

  1. Name and describe two main types of decisions special educators make in the assessment process. (CO1)
  2. Name and describe the four main steps in the assessment process. (CO1)
  3. Provide examples of three identification and referral stages special educators use in special education assessment. (CO1)
  4. Define the individualized assessment plan professionals use in discussion regarding determination of eligibility. (CO1)
  5. Discuss elements of the IEP professionals use in program planning. (CO1)
  6. Provide definitions of two monitoring techniques in program implementation and monitoring. (CO2)
  7. Describe three examples of benefits in parent–professional partnerships in assessment. (CO1)
  8. Provide three examples of strategies educational professionals could use to develop parent–professional partnerships in the assessment process. (CO2, CO3, CO4)
  9. Discuss three elements that are important in the assessment of children from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and partnering with their families. (CO2, CO3, CO4)
  10. Summarize three elements that are important in communicating effectively with parents and families. (CO5)
  11. Choose and explain three strategies educational professionals use to effectively interview and conference with parents and families. (CO2, CO3, CO4, CO5)
  12. Describe how CBM can be used for decision making in the schools. (CO2, CO3, CO4)
  13. Administer and score Tests 1-5 of the WJ-IV ACH. (CO 3, 4)
