The third course in a series is a comprehensive study of the classification, description and origin of igneous and metamorphic rocks. Students will learn about the use of minerals in helping to interpret the geologic and tectonic significance of the rocks in which they are found. The course builds on skills learned in GEOL 311 and 312 and stresses hand sample and thin section descriptive techniques.
