ITGS 130-F01: Fye: Social Science

The term social justice has become a buzzword to mean inclusion of diverse groups, however what does it actually mean to work toward a socially just world? This course explores social justice as a concept in your life and asks you to consider what social change looks like and your role in achieving it. Using Critical Race Theory you will have the opportunity to analyze contemporary issues such as institutional racism, heterosexism, ableism, sexism, and the many intersecting identities that make these issues complex.

This is a Social Sciences Breadth Area Course because it prepares students to correctly define terms pertinent to Social Justice and Inclusion. Students will apply discipline-specific concepts to explain systems and historical aspects of power, privilege, and oppression. This course allows students to explore and analyze contemporary issues around Racism through the conventions of Critical Race Theory. Students will explore identity-based issues with an intersectional lens and engaging anti-racism models in developing their ideas.
